How to Check Whether an Under Desk CPU Holder Fits Your PC

• Neva Furniture

An under-desk CPU holder supports the computer tower. To choose one, check the case dimensions and weight, then check whether the desk can carry it safely in the intended position. A tower that fits inside the holder may still be unsuitable for the available mounting area.

Use this guide before ordering or drilling. Keep your computer's manual nearby, because ventilation openings and access requirements vary between cases.

Measure the complete case

Record the tower's widest and tallest points, including feet or permanent projections that affect how it sits in the holder. Note its depth too: even when a holder's adjustment specification focuses on width and height, the case can extend far enough to meet a wall, frame leg or your knees.

Check the actual assembled computer weight. A bare-case specification excludes the components inside. If you cannot weigh it safely, obtain an assembled-system specification or ask the supplier to help establish the weight; do not guess from the size of the case.

The FlexiSpot CH2B listed by Neva specifies a tower width range of 70–203 mm. Neva lists a supplier-rated maximum load of 30 kg. These are screening checks, not a promise that every case within those figures will work with every desk. Confirm the usable clamping height for your exact case with Neva before ordering: the listing text and dimension illustration show different height measurements, so do not treat the largest published number as guaranteed internal clearance.

For example, a hypothetical 210 mm-wide tower would exceed the listed width range even if its weight were comfortably below the limit. Passing the weight check cannot compensate for failing the size check.

Keep vents and access points usable

Locate the case's intake vents, exhaust vents, removable filters, power button and frequently used ports. Check where the holder's pads and retaining parts will contact the case. They should not obstruct ventilation or press against a fragile panel.

Follow the computer manufacturer's clearance instructions. There is no single clearance figure that suits every case layout. A tower with bottom-mounted ventilation needs a different inspection from one with side vents.

Think about maintenance as well as daily use. Can you reach a removable filter? Can a side panel be opened without dismantling the workstation? If the computer must be removed for servicing, plan how it can be safely supported during removal.

Confirm the mounting surface

Inspect the desktop underside for crossbars, motors, cable-management parts and drawers. Ask for the holder's mounting template and the approved installation method for your particular desktop material.

The holder's rating does not establish the strength of the desktop or fasteners. Installation depends on the entire connection: the mounting surface, hardware, spacing and the installed load. If the desktop construction is uncertain, have the desk supplier confirm suitability before drilling.

Position the tower where it leaves usable knee and foot space. A useful way to test this is to mark its footprint with a cardboard outline, then sit, turn and move the chair as you normally would. Keep the actual computer securely supported while planning.

Allow for cables and desk travel

Include the tower, holder and all other supported equipment when checking the desk's permitted load. Follow the manual's definition of whether that rating includes the tabletop and any load-distribution limits.

A computer mounted to a moving desk travels with that desk. Equipment and sockets elsewhere in the room may remain stationary. Trace every connection, including power, Ethernet, speakers and peripherals.

Provide slack for the intended desk movement and keep cables away from pinch points. Do not rely on a cable being long enough at seated height. After installation, check the full intended height range slowly, following the desk instructions and watching for tension or contact.

For a route-by-route check, use our standing-desk cable planning guide.

The CH2B listing describes a swivel function. Rotation needs clear space around the tower and enough cable freedom; it should not be treated as an invitation to spin a connected computer through unrestricted turns.

Decide before you order

Proceed only when all four questions have answers:

  • Does the complete tower fit the holder's adjustment range and load limit?
  • Do the retaining parts leave vents, panels and controls usable?
  • Is the desk construction suitable for the approved mounting method?
  • Is there enough space for your legs, cables and any desk movement?

Send Neva the case model, measurements, weight and an underside desk photo if you need help checking the proposed combination. Keep the final installation instructions with your order so the installer is working from the same specification.
