Before buying an office chair in Bangladesh, check three things together: your seated fit, the space under your desk, and the room the chair needs to move. A chair can look compact in a photograph yet have armrests that hit a drawer or a base that crowds your walkway. The measurements below help you compare options before ordering.
What should you measure before choosing an office chair?
Use a tape measure and record everything in centimetres. Measure your actual desk, including drawers, rails and cable trays. The advertised desktop height is not the same as the usable clearance underneath it.
| Measurement | How to check it | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Desk underside height | Measure floor to the lowest obstruction above the chair’s approach. | The chair’s armrest height from the floor at your working seat height. |
| Clear opening width | Measure between desk legs, drawers or pedestals. | Overall armrest width and base diameter, not seat width alone. |
| Leg space | Check the area occupied by drawers, crossbars, storage and cables. | Enough unobstructed space to sit close and change position. |
| Space behind the desk | Check the chair’s position when pulled out and when reclined. | Its full footprint without blocking a door, cabinet or walkway. |
Start with the person who will use the chair
OSHA’s computer workstation evaluation checklist recommends checking that feet have support, seat depth accommodates the user, and armrests support the forearms without restricting movement. Its chair guidance also explains why chair adjustments should be considered alongside the desk and equipment.
In a showroom, sit back in the chair and try the controls yourself. Check whether the back support meets you comfortably and whether you can reach the keyboard and mouse without reaching around the armrests. Repeat this in your normal working position, rather than judging the chair only while leaning back.
Check armrest clearance at your working height
A minimum armrest-height figure can be misleading if it was measured with the seat at its lowest setting. Ask for the floor-to-armrest height at the seat height you expect to use.
Example: imagine a desktop is 74 cm high, but its drawer leaves only 66 cm beneath it. If your adjusted chair’s armrests sit 69 cm above the floor, they will meet the drawer even though they are lower than the desktop. This example is a compatibility check, not a recommended desk or chair size.
If the arms do not clear, compare a different adjustment range or desk design. Lowering the whole chair simply to tuck it away may leave it poorly positioned for working. Confirm any armrest removal or modification with the supplier before changing the chair.
Ask for the right product specifications
- Minimum and maximum seat height, with the measurement method stated.
- Seat width and usable depth, including any depth adjustment.
- Overall width across the arms and diameter of the base.
- Armrest adjustment range and reclined footprint.
- Listed load capacity and product-specific warranty coverage.
For example, Neva’s FlexiSpot Sheer product page describes seat-height and seat-depth adjustment with a mesh back and padded fabric seat. That helps identify features to compare; it does not establish whether the chair fits your particular desk. Ask the team to confirm the supplied configuration and measurements.

Plan the delivery route as well as the workspace
For an apartment or office in Dhaka, record the doorway, lift and stair access before ordering bulky furniture. Tell the supplier about narrow turns, building access restrictions and the floor of delivery. Ask whether the product arrives assembled or boxed, what assembly is included, and what charges apply to your destination.
Frequently asked questions
Will any ergonomic chair fit a standard desk?
No. “Ergonomic” describes design features, not a guaranteed size match. Compare the chair’s adjusted dimensions with your desk’s actual underside clearance and opening width.
Should I choose a chair by my height alone?
Height is a starting point. Seat depth, width, adjustment range, desk layout and your own seated trial all matter. Share your measurements and preferred working position when asking for help.
Can Neva help me compare a chair and desk?
Contact Neva Furniture with the desk measurements, chair model and delivery location. You can also arrange a visit to the showroom at 1/6 Amtoli, Mohakhali-Gulshan Road, Dhaka; confirm the models available to try before travelling.
